When it comes to web design, less sometimes is more. Many amateur webmasters load their websites with too many graphics and applications that the site becomes virtually unusable. If the site looks amateurish, people will click away! So here's how to make your website more usable and more profitable:

1. Make sure your website works in the popular browsers such as Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Netscape and Safari. Doing this ensures that all visitors can see your page as you intended it to be.

2. Have some interactive elements on your site. These include forums, comment board, chatbox and a blog. By having these components, you can build a community around your web home and encourage repeat visitors.

3. Don't use too many graphics and pictures on your page. These are very heavy in size and will slow down the loading time of your page considerably. Do use some graphics, but not too many that it hinders usability.

4. Sell advertising space on your website! If your site is generating a lot of traffic, you can sell ad space on your website for hefty profits.

5. Check that your home page loads fast before it goes live to the public. People are impatient these days so your site has to load fast!

6. Use colors which relate to the theme of your web home. For example, if you are selling baby items, don't use gloomy colors like grey and black. You might want to use pink and white instead as it's more suitable for the theme.
